Tnx Brendan and Jan-Felix. If I understood things correctly there are two aspects that you are referring to. The first is top-down (motivation) and it seems that there is enough incentive for a majority of the stakeholders involved to get the ball rolling (although there is fair chance that some big-endian/little-endian type resolutions need to come first). The second is bottom-up (resources). You mentioned that integration sucks. To that I would like to add that infrastructure blows. At Deutsche Telekom the CIO used to refer to the IT infrastructure as the Milky Way (not the candy bar); even today support employees have to shuffle between different CRM systems and the like. The big question in my mind (as you noted in the tail end of the blog) is who will successfully go OTT over these ruins.
